The Wave
Well, today is an interesting day for myself. I am looking around on the web for something to catch my attention. They have a lot of wonderful stories to write about today but I am really into a competing against things. In life, you will face three things to challenge you everyday in your life. These three things are really my motivating factor to suceed in any avenue of life. I have a lot motto that I say to myself a lot. It is you against the yourself. It is you against the other person. It is you against nature. They are holding a surf contest in Northern California. It is one of the biggest one in the world. It is called the Maverick Surf contest.
Mavericks is a world-renowned big wave break located one-half mile off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California. In 1975, Jeff Clark became the first person to ever surf Mavericks. For the next 15 years, he surfed there alone as no one else dared to tackle what is today considered one of the most challenging waves in the world. Many believe this 15 year solo effort to be one of the great feats in surfing history. According to top big-wave surfer and respected filmmaker Grant Washburn, "I think about that sometimes, and every time it's just amazing to me. I just can't imagine anyone having that kind of courage and commitment at a place so dangerous, when you're so alone."
By the early 1990s, word of Jeff's adventures began to spread, and since then Mavericks has moved into the foreground of modern big-wave surfing, attracting the most elite riders to test its limits each time it breaks. These riders are presented with waves as high as 50 feet, remarkably strong currents, dangerous rocks, shallow reefs, and frigid water temperatures. In summary, Mavericks is like no other place on the planet.
This winter, sometime between December 7th and March 31st -- when conditions are just right and giant swells roll in from far across the Pacific --The Mavericks Surf Contest® will return to Half Moon Bay. On the call of Contest Director Jeff Clark, 24 of the world’s best big wave surfers will once again gather together to test themselves against the bone-chilling cold, ever-present dangers, and giant waves of Mavericks . The 2007/2008 contest promises to be an amazing display of courage and surfing skill, set on a wave considered by many to be the most dangerous in the world.

This should be a wonderful contest with a lot of great surfing in the area. I am going to watch the contest. I am really new to surfing but I am really intrigue with the competing at the highest level possible. Good luck to all the surfers. Good Luck!
