Teach and reinforce through symbols and artifacts.
“Leaders pay heed to the informal channels by which organizational messages are conveyed. Foremost among these are the symbols and artifacts of workday life. Sometimes symbols represent time-honored traditions.”
Many successful organizations have a standard motto or logo that we can recognize at a moments notice. UPS is constantly telling us on their TV commercial. “What can Brown do for you?” I like this saying a lot, because it tells their customers a lot about them. They want their clientele to know that they are here to help them with any type of shipping problems. I have watch a lot of different educational structures fail because they don’t believe in this at all. I have no idea about what informal channels my present school in which our principal is trying to pass along to us. It is very hard to perform at a high level if you have no sense of direction at all.
