REFLECTION for LEADERSHIP

By: Maria Martinez

For leaders and organizations to succeed, there are four ingredients for success: ideas, relationships, adventure and self-learning. Therefore, to be effective administrators must simultaneously understand themselves as individuals and leaders, understand their staff-students community-colleagues, have a vision for a good school, and reflect on their role as a leader in this good school. These self-learned ideas are true according to the research literature and the experience of seasoned school administrators. Please reflect on the following points and be prepared to share as a learning opportunity with our seminar participants.

Reflections of who are your likes, dislikes, strengths, areas of growth, how you learn, how you interact with others, your irritants, your joys, your goals.

Reflections of who you are as leader—in your current role, your values, your skills, your ethics, your life learning, the rewards, the frustrations………..

Reflections on your vision of a good school, a good school district. Describe the look and feel of the school, how teachers teach, how students learn, the purpose of school, of education……

Reflections regarding your role as a leader in this school, school district. Discuss your behaviors as you lead, facilitate and support teaching and learning, building community, foster professional development, educational change and culture shaping, deal with community and school politics, serve as social/psychological architects………
