“People who boast of being able to perform a task or achieve a goal or who make exaggerated claims of possessing noble attributes or desirable material goods are called phonies and fakes. People who actually possess the attributes or accomplish the results are called genuine.”

I strongly believe that you need to let some people know about some of your leadership capabilities and weaknesses. Once in a while, you should toot your own horn or let something show off your capabilities as a leader. You have to show some self confidence to other people. So, other people will believe in you. You want to come across as a genuine person who possesses strong leadership abilities. Once you share about strengths, you should put those words into action. You want to prove to others that they can trust you. No one will follow anyone with a lack of confidence in themselves. I never see anyone taking advice from someone who is a failure in the business sector. You can only make these great claims for certain amount of time until people want to see some positive results.

I worked for a small Indian-owned hi-tech company several years ago, and was one of two women doing development or engineering. Since we worked in teams, I was quick to spread around the credit for things I had actually done on my own, and often on my own time. Who else shared the credit? Only the other woman. None of the men, not one, not once ever said one positive thing about their teammates. They were all quick to take credit for the team's work, and just as quick to assign the blame to someone else if something was taking longer than anticipated to work out. What a bunch of losers.

Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but I was never happier than the day I walked out of there for the last time.

btw, they are long since out of business.
